After your insightful tour of Kigali, depart the city and head towards the Nyungwe Forest National Park. This biologically diverse forest is like a scene from a fairy tale, with towering Mahogany trees, lush ferns, orchids, and a rich canopy of life. Check in at your hotel and take in the jungle views.

Nyungwe Forest National Park is renowned for its diverse primate species, making it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts. One of the park’s most popular experiences is the chimpanzee tracking adventure. Your day begins with an early start at 4:00 A.M. from your lodge. You’ll embark on a guided trek deep into the forest in search of a chimpanzee family. Once located, you’ll have the privilege of spending one hour observing these remarkable creatures in their natural habitat. The dense forest may pose some challenges, but the playful nature and human-like behaviors of the chimps make the trek well worth it.

Return to your lodge for lunch, and in the afternoon, explore the Gisakura tea estate, learning about the process of tea production.

Today, you’ll make your way to Volcanoes National Park with an exciting journey that includes stops in Kibuye and Gisenyi. En route, take a break for lunch at your hotel. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the Dian Fossey Museum, dedicated to the American naturalist who dedicated her life to protecting mountain gorillas. Embark on a hike from the trailhead at the research station to see the cabin where she was tragically murdered in 1985. The nearby grave where Dian Fossey and 20 of her beloved mountain gorillas are buried serves as a poignant reminder of her incredible dedication to conservation. The hike takes approximately 1.5 hours and requires a moderate level of fitness, offering opportunities to spot forest hogs, elephants, primates, and diverse bird species.

Return to your lodge for a well-deserved dinner.

Prepare for an early morning adventure as you set out for a hike to Mount Bisoke, an active volcano. The hike to the summit will take about half a day, so be sure to bring a packed lunch and wear comfortable hiking boots.
